The wrong ribbon is the most common supplies mistake we see. Many ribbons look alike, and part numbers differ by one or two letters. A ribbon made for a different model will not fit or will not print. Find your exact printer model on the label first. Then match it in the chart below.
Ribbons are made for one printer model or one family. Check the model name on the printer label, find that row below, and order a ribbon from that row only. Two Magicard traps cause most wrong orders: the original Pronto and the Pronto 100 take different ribbons, and the 300 and the 400X take different ribbons.
How to find your exact model
- Look at the label. It is on the back or the underside of the printer. It shows the model name and the serial number.
- Check your computer. Open Printers & Scanners (Windows Settings, or System Settings on a Mac). The printer name there usually includes the model.
- Read the old ribbon box. The part number on the box you used last is a good match, as long as it printed well in this printer.
These are two different printers with similar names. Read the model name on the label. If it says Pronto 100 (sometimes written Pronto100), use the MD100YMCKO/2 ribbon. If it says only Pronto, use the MA-series ribbons in the Pronto row. Not sure? Send us a photo of the label.

Common mix-ups
- Original Pronto vs Pronto 100. The original Pronto takes MA300YMCKO or MA100YMCKO. The Pronto 100 takes MD100YMCKO/2. They do not swap.
- MA1000K black and white. These monochrome ribbons fit the Magicard Pronto, Pronto 100, 250X, 300, 400X, 600, D, Enduro 3e and Rio Pro 360.
- Magicard ribbon series. The letters at the start of the part number tell you the printer family. MA is Enduro 3e, Rio Pro 360 and the original Pronto. MD is the Pronto 100. MC is the 300. MB is the 600. BN is the D. XM is the 400X. CN is the 250X. HE is the Ultima. Only MA1000K crosses over, as listed above.
- Magicard 300 vs 400X. The 300 takes MC-series ribbons. The 400X takes XM-series ribbons. An MC ribbon will not work in a 400X, and an XM ribbon will not work in a 300.
- Color vs monochrome. YMCKO is full color: yellow, magenta, cyan, black and a clear overlay. K is black only. KO is black with a clear overlay. A K ribbon cannot print a color photo, even if it fits the printer.
- Single-sided vs dual-sided. YMCKOK ribbons have an extra black panel for the back of the card. Use them only on a printer that prints both sides.
- Retransfer printers need film too. The Seaory R330 and R660, the Fargo HDP models and the Magicard Ultima print onto a film and then onto the card. Order the film with the ribbon.
