A surprising number of "broken printer" calls turn out to be the cards. The wrong card can tear ribbons, ruin the cleaning roller, jam the flipper or throw feed errors on a printer with nothing wrong with it. Here is what works in the Seaory S25, S26 and S28, what does not, and how to stop the feed problems that good cards can still cause.
Use standard CR80 white PVC cards. Never use coated or inkjet cards: they melt into the ribbon. Chip and prox cards work, but print less evenly. If your cards have a slot hole and jam or will not flip, turn on Rotate 180°, or punch the hole after printing. Most feed errors come from static, bent cards or a missing counterweight card.
What works and what doesn't
| Card | Works? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| CR80 white PVC, 30 mil (credit-card size) | Yes | What these printers are built for. Our blank cards are cut to the tolerance they expect. |
| Coated or "inkjet" PVC cards | No | Made for inkjet printers. The coating melts into the ribbon, tears it, and can ruin the cleaning roller. |
| Chip, prox or NFC cards | With care | The chip makes the surface uneven, so expect lighter or patchy print over it. Lower the heat (see the print quality guide). For daily chip-card printing, use a retransfer printer. |
| Pre-punched cards with a slot hole | With care | Can jam or fail to flip on the S28. Turn on Rotate 180°, or print first and punch afterwards. |
| Bent, warped or rough-edged cards | No | Cause feed errors and white edges. A rough edge shows up as a broken arrow on the test chart. |
Stop feed errors and jams
New cards stick together with static, so the printer pulls two at once or none. Flex and fan the stack, then square it up before you load it.
The weighted card sits on top of the stack and keeps the cards pressed down for feeding. Without it, the printer can report no cards with a full hopper. Lost yours? Replace it here.
The slider at the card feeder sets how thick a card the printer expects. If it is moved off the right setting, cards will not feed or two go in at once. Set it back to standard thickness for 30 mil cards, press the stack down into the hopper and try again.
We have seen a printer report no cards on one desk and feed perfectly on another. If feeding is unreliable, move the printer to a flat, solid table.
Dust on the feed rollers causes slips and jams. Run a cleaning card: see how to clean your printer.
For specific feed errors, see Error 51 (cards not feeding) and the card jam guides for the S25, S26 and S28. If the no-card sensor lever in the hopper is broken, the check can be switched off in the driver so you can keep printing. Contact us first and we will walk you through it.

- Printer model and serial number
- A photo of the cards you are using, front and back, and the box or brand they came from
- A photo of the card hopper loaded, with the counterweight card in place
- A short phone video of the jam or feed error happening, with the error code on screen
