How to Clean Your Seaory ID Card Printer (S25 / S26 / S28 and R330 / R660)

Three tools, about ten minutes. Run the cleaning card through the card path, wipe the printhead with the swab, and replace the cleaning roller when it stops picking up dust. Do it at every ribbon change and your cards stay sharp.
Quick answer
Ribbon out. Cleaning card through the card path first (Tool → Cleaning Tool), swab along the printhead edge second, then look at the cleaning roller and swap it if it has gone grey.

Before you start
- Take the ribbon out. S25 / S26 / S28: lift the ribbon cartridge out. R330 / R660: remove the ribbon and the retransfer film. Set them somewhere clean.
- Fresh cleaning card, fresh swab. Both are single-use, and both are in the Seaory cleaning kit. The cloth can be reused.
- Power off and let the printhead cool before manual cleaning. Turn the printer on only when you are ready to run the cleaning-card cycle.
- Never touch the printhead edge with fingers, metal or a dry cloth. The swab in the kit is the only thing that should touch it.
S-series ribbon cartridge. Lift it straight out before any cleaning step.
Part 1 — Run the cleaning card through the card path
The cleaning card is a sticky card. It collects the dust and card debris that build up on the feed rollers, which is what prevents the little white dots and specks you sometimes see on a print.

The printer will report that the ribbon is missing. That is expected during cleaning.

Peel the blue 3M liner off the cleaning card
The card is adhesive underneath. Hold it by the edges once the liner is off.

Remove blank cards and load the cleaning card for your model
S25: use the manual card slot when the Cleaning Tool prompts you; the S25 has no input hopper. S26 / S28: remove the blank-card stack and weight plate, then load the cleaning card as shown. R330 / R660: empty the input hopper and follow the R-series cleaning prompt.

Start the cleaning cycle
From a computer, open the printer driver and click Cleaning Tool. The driver asks you to confirm the ribbon is out and the cleaning card is in, then pulls the card through the card path and ejects it.
S25 / S26 / S28 printer controls: the video demonstrates this alternative at 1:26. Follow the button sequence and cleaning-card prompt shown for the S-series.
R330 / R660 printer screen: use Menu → Printer Setting → Clean Tool. This is the separate R-series menu procedure.

On a Mac

Discard the cleaning card
A used cleaning card has the dirt on it. Never run it twice. Finish the manual cleaning below before reinstalling the ribbon and loading blank cards.
Part 2 — Wipe the printhead with the cleaning swab
The printhead is the thin ceramic strip that heats the ribbon. A speck of dust stuck to it prints as a thin line down every card. The swab lifts it off without scratching.

Open the cover and find the printhead edge
S25 / S26 / S28: lift the printhead arm; the edge faces down toward the card path. R330 / R660: open the top cover and look for the same thin strip above the film path.

Wipe the edge end to end, one direction, light pressure
Two or three passes with the swab is enough. Do not scrub back and forth and do not press.

Wipe the rollers you can see, then let everything dry
Use the same swab or the cloth on any roller you can reach. Wait at least a minute before the ribbon goes back in.
Part 3 — Check the cleaning roller and replace it when it stops working
The tacky cleaning roller lifts dust off cards before they reach the printhead. Replace it when it looks grey or no longer picks up dust. S25 / S26 / S28: use the 16100 S-series roller. R330 / R660: use the roller in the CC002 R-series kit.

Open the cover and lift the old roller out
S25 / S26 / S28: where the cleaning roller sits. It lifts straight out.

Peel the 3M backing off the new roller
Hold it by the ends. The tacky surface should not touch anything before it is installed.
Remove the 3M backing, then seat the roller in the same position.

Seat the new roller until it sits flat, then close the cover
R330 / R660: cleaning roller position.

Dusty room?
Card printers in warehouses, schools and reception desks pick up more dust. Keep the input hopper closed on models that have one, store blank cards in their box until needed, and clean at every ribbon change.
