ID Card Printer Offline or Stuck Printing on Windows? 8 Fixes

Fix a problem·Updated Oct 20, 2026·2 min read

When Windows says your card printer is offline, or jobs sit in the queue and never print, the printer is almost never broken. A stuck print queue, the wrong copy of the printer, or Windows Fast Startup cause most of these cases. Work from the top; most people are printing again by step 4.

Quick answer

Cancel everything in the print queue, restart the Print Spooler service, then pick the copy of the printer that shows as ready under File › Print Settings in Bodno. Still offline? Turn off Fast Startup and restart the computer.

Fix it in this order

1
Check the cable and power

Use the USB cable that came with the printer, plugged straight into the computer (no hub or dock), and try a different USB port. Plug the printer into a wall outlet, turn it on and wait until it says it is ready.

2
Clear the print queue

Open the printer list:

Settings›Bluetooth & devices›Printers & scanners

Click your printer, then Open print queue. Cancel every document in the list. In the queue window, open the Printer menu and make sure Use Printer Offline is not ticked.

3
Restart the Print Spooler

The Print Spooler is the Windows service that sends jobs to printers. When it gets stuck, every printer looks offline.

Press Windows key + R, type services.msc and press Enter. Find Print Spooler in the list, right-click it and choose Restart.

4
Pick the right copy in Bodno

Windows sometimes adds extra copies of a printer, like "(Copy 1)". Only one of them is connected.

File›Print Settings

Choose the copy that Windows shows as ready, not offline.

5
Unblock the printer in Bodno

If Bodno shows a message like "error enumerating the printer", it has blocked the printer. Go to:

BOD›Clear Config

Restart Bodno, then pick the printer again in File › Print Settings. More: unblock a blocked printer.

6
Turn off Fast Startup

With Fast Startup on, shutting down does not fully restart Windows, so a printer that dropped off can stay offline the next day. Open Control Panel › Power Options › Choose what the power buttons do, click Change settings that are currently unavailable, untick Turn on fast startup and save. Then choose Restart (not Shut down).

7
Remove and re-add the printer

Unplug the USB cable. In Printers & scanners, remove every copy of your printer, restart the computer, turn the printer on and plug the USB cable back in. Windows finds it again.

8
Reinstall the driver

Still offline? Uninstall the printer's driver, restart, and install the latest one from your printer's support page. You need administrator rights; see what your computer needs. Magicard printer? Follow the Magicard fixes.

Windows prints a test page, but Bodno prints nothing?

The printer is fine. Your card design is probably linked to an empty database. See card prints blank or the wrong data.
