How do I download and install the Fargo HDP5000 driver?
Use the Printer driver button above for Windows. Run the installer, then connect the printer by USB and turn it on. When the printer shows up in Printers & scanners, print a test card to confirm everything works.
How do I update the Fargo HDP5000 firmware?
Most printers rarely need it. Update only if our support team asks you to, or to fix a known issue. Download it from Firmware update above, then install Fargo Workbench from the same HID page. In Workbench open Update Manager, select the printer, choose the firmware file and send it. Keep the printer on until it restarts.
Do not turn off or unplug the printer while it updates. If you would rather not do it alone, call us and a technician will run it with you over remote support.
Which versions of Windows does the Fargo HDP5000 work with?
All of them, including Windows 11. The Fargo HDP5000 driver and Bodno ID Card Software both work on any version of Windows. Get them from the downloads above.
Does the Fargo HDP5000 work on a Mac?
No. The Fargo HDP5000 works with Windows computers only. If you print from a Mac, call us at (732) 987-5300 and we will go over Mac-compatible printers.
How do I print a test card?
Print a test page from the driver: Devices and Printers › right-click the Fargo HDP5000 › Printer properties › Print Test Page. If it won’t print, check the printer display for an error and clear any stuck jobs in the print queue.
If the test card prints cleanly but your cards do not, the problem is in the software or the card design, not the printer.
Which ribbons and cards does the Fargo HDP5000 use?

Cards: CR80 PVC cards, 30 to 50 mil (30 to 40 mil with the dual hopper). Most badges are printed on 30 mil cards, like our Bodno CR80 30 mil PVC cards. Keep them in the box until you load them, because dust and fingerprints show up on the print.
Which cleaning kit does the Fargo HDP5000 use, and how often should I clean it?
Run a cleaning card through the printer at every ribbon change, and right away if you see specks, dots or lines on your cards.
What do the messages on the Fargo HDP5000 screen mean?
The Fargo HDP5000 uses two supplies: the print ribbon and the clear HDP film that transfers the image to the card. Most messages point to one of them.
- Unable to Feed Card: check there are cards, that they aren’t stuck together, and that the thickness setting matches them.
- Card Jam: clear the card from the print or flip area.
- Check Film, Film Align Error, Film Break/Jam: the film can’t move. Look for a break or something blocking it.
- Film Low, Film Out, Invalid Film: replace the film, or check the right film is installed.
- Calibrate Film, Calibrate Ribbon: press Cancel, then run the film or ribbon calibration.
- Calibrate Failed: check the film is installed correctly, with no ribbon in the printer, and try again.
- Ribbon Break/Jam: clear the jam, or tape the ribbon back onto the take-up core.
- Clean Printer: replace the cleaning roller tape, then clean the feed rollers and printhead.
- Empty Reject Bin: remove the rejected cards. Shred them if they hold personal data.
I have a new computer. What do I install?
Three things, in this order: the printer driver, Bodno ID Card Software, then a test card. Activate the software with the code from your purchase email. If activation does not go through, see Activation & license help or call us.
