Matica MC320X Troubleshooting: Error Codes, Jams, Faded Prints and Cleaning

Fix a problem·Updated Oct 13, 2026·3 min read

The Matica MC320X tells you what is wrong with a light and an error number on its screen. Most errors are a card or ribbon problem you can clear in a few minutes. This guide covers the codes we see most, plus jams, faded prints and the cleaning that prevents both.

Quick answer

Turn the printer off, clear any card or ribbon scrap from the card path, check the card thickness setting and the hopper weight, and turn it back on. Error 15 or 25 points to the ribbon. Faded prints mean advanced cleaning with a T-card. Error 59 or anything in the 90s: call us.

What the light means

Light Meaning
Green Ready
Green, blinking Receiving a print job
Amber Ribbon nearly used up, or cleaning due (the screen says which)
Amber, blinking Out of cards or ribbon
Red An error, or cleaning now required (the screen says which)
Red, blinking Needs service or a firmware update. Call us

Error codes

Code What it means What to do
14 (ribbon position) A card is stuck or the ribbon tore Follow the jam checklist below. Make sure the ribbon spool is pushed all the way onto its gear
15 (no ribbon) The printer cannot read the ribbon's chip Put in a fresh ribbon; a damaged ribbon chip is the usual cause. If a new ribbon still shows 15, call us
53 (card input) No card detected in the feed path, or several cards pulled at once Clear stuck cards, fan the stack, clean with a T-card and restart
9 when printing one side "Print back" is turned on for a one-sided job Untick the back-side option in the driver
25 (project code) The ribbon does not match the printer, often right after a ribbon change Use a ribbon made for the MC320X and reseat it. Still showing? Call us
59, 91, 92 Faults we cannot clear remotely Call us. These usually need a repair

Card jam or torn ribbon checklist

1
Turn the printer off

Open it and remove any card or bits of ribbon from the card path and the flipper.

2
Check the card settings

Make sure the card thickness setting matches your cards and the weight is sitting on top of the card stack.

3
Check the cleaning roller

Make sure the cleaning roller is in place.

4
Turn it back on

Let it finish starting up, then print one card.

Faded or uneven prints

  • Run the advanced cleaning with a T-card (below). In our cases, standard cleaning alone often did not fix fading.
  • Pick the right printer in Bodno under File › Print Settings: the copy that Windows shows as ready, not an offline duplicate.
  • Match the ribbon selected in the driver to the ribbon that is installed.
  • Black text not solid? In the driver, under the card front's monochrome options, turn on Resin Area Extraction.

Cleaning that prevents most problems

Cleaning When How
Standard At every ribbon change. The printer asks at 1,000 prints and requires it at 1,200 Printer properties › Tools › Clean printer, with the long cleaning card
Advanced Every 5,000 prints, or when prints fade Tools › Advance printer clean, with a T-card fed in at the back

Skipping the required cleanings can affect your coverage. Printing on both sides? See dual-sided printing on Magicard and Matica. Drivers, the manual and firmware are on the MC320 support page; update firmware only if we ask you to.

If it needs a repair

The MC320X has 3 years of coverage. If a fault does not clear, we set up the repair. Ship it in the original box or a similar box with both foam pieces, with the ribbon and cards removed, and include the USB cable, power adapter, power cord, card output tray and ribbon holder.

Questions about this

01 What does error 53 mean on the MC320X?
The printer cannot detect a card in the feed path. Clear any stuck card, fan the card stack, clean the rollers with a T-card and restart the printer.
02 Error 15 says no ribbon, but the ribbon is in.
The printer cannot read the ribbon's chip. The fastest fix is a fresh ribbon.
03 Some text prints lighter than the rest.
Run the advanced cleaning with a T-card. Standard cleaning alone often does not fix fading.
04 How often should I clean the MC320X?
Standard cleaning at every ribbon change, which the printer asks for at 1,000 prints, and advanced cleaning with a T-card every 5,000 prints.
05 Should I update the firmware?
Only if our support team asks you to.
06 I do not have the foam to ship it for repair.
Use the Bodno storage box with foam insert made for the MC320.
