The chip stores a small amount of data directly on the card and protects writes behind a security code — so it works for vending and stored-value, laundry and copy systems, membership tiers, and loyalty balances. It's a memory card, not a processor card. If you need cryptographic operations on the card itself, look at a Java-based card instead.
You'll need a printer fitted with a contact smart card encoder, and Platinum edition or above of Bodno software — smart card encoding is a Platinum feature and is Windows-only. Magnetic stripe encoding is available from Bronze up on both Mac and Windows.
